Common Sexual Dysfunction Among Men and Women

Sexual dysfunction is a problem that prevents you from wanting or enjoying sexual activity. Sexual dysfunction is a common problem in both men and women.

Sexual dysfunction can occur at any age, but it is more common in people over 40 because it is often related to a decline in health associated with aging. Stress may be a common reason for sexual dysfunction. Other causes may include psychological problems, sexual trauma, diabetes, heart diseases, drug and alcohol consumption, certain medications etc.

What are the types of Sexual Dysfunction?

Sexual dysfunction generally is classified into four categories:

Desire Disorder

This disorder affects sexual desire or interest in sex. It is also known as low libido. It is caused due to low estrogen and testosterone levels. If a person is having diabetes and heart disease, it is common to have a desire disorder.

Arousal Disorders

In this disorder, it is difficult or impossible to become physically aroused during sex. This condition can occur in both men and women. A person may be interested in sexual activity but unable to get satisfaction in such disorder.

Orgasm Disorders

This is the common disorder among women, but can also occur in men. The person is unable to reach the climax during sexual activity. Stress, hormonal changes, and low libido are the common causes of this disorder.

Pain Disorders

It involves pain during intercourse. This can affect both men and women. Vaginal dryness, urinary infections may be the reasons for women. In men, pain may be caused due to infections, physical damage to the penis, prostatitis, genital herpes.

How to Deal with Sexual Dysfunction?

Strong and healthy sex life is an important part of a relationship. If you are suffering from sexual dysfunction, consult your doctor. Talk with your partner openly can also be a remedy for you. Quitting smoking and alcohol is good in such conditions. You should manage your stress, anxiety or depression.
